Greetings!
Skalator´s music will be on showcase at the Red Bull Silent Park: Overground Sound of Lisbon, from the 2 October until 11 October 2014.
This is a silent event where the music will be played through headphones via Bluetooth. The event is happening at Park in Lisbon and the aim is to combine the musical journey with the stunning view from the rooftop.
Curated by the Ginga Beat crew from Red Bull Music Radio, the event spans over four weeks of contemporary Portuguese electronic music featuring MMMOOONNNOOO, the winner of Red Bull´s contest to represent Portugal at this year´s edition of the Music Academy, soon happening in Tokyo.
Each week, two artists will have their 90min mixtape on showcase. They all come from the different sides of the spectrum but represent the producers of cutting-edge music in Portugal.

BREAKAGE
Greetings!
It´s been a while I know, been quite busy recently building the new website (www.skalatormusic.com) and also with the release of my new EP called "Rising Beyond" (Bandcamp), check them out when you have some time...
Focus of this post goes to James Boyle aka BREAKAGE, a London based producer and DJ. Moving effortlessly through styles on the bass music scene, words are short to describe his talent as one of the most versatile operators around nowadays. Already with an impressive back catalog, he has a number of classic releases under his belt on Reinforced, Inperspective, Bassbin and Digital Soundboy but continues shaping his sound, combining rich tones and incredible and versatile production technique on the AMEN break and full basslines, he sits on the top with his fellow mates Shy Fx, Equinox, B Key and Dub-One.
He was at the forefront of a new wave of Breakbeat scientists bringing a percussive sound back to Drum and Bass at a time when the scene seemed to have forgotten its JUNGLE roots.
My personal view is that I prefer his older amen jungle material to the current music he produces these days but I have to admit that the quality on the productions remains intact...
More recently, Breakage has moved away from the oldskool jungle choppage into slower tempo areas but still very worthy to hear what he´s been doing recently and what he has been preparing to be soon released..big up mate!
In the meantime, have a listen to the all-time jungle classic "So Vain", by Breakage:

SEVIN
Greetings!!
As part of my quest to discover quality new music and thanks to the cloud of sound, I feel blessed to stumble upon JOEL SEVIN (aka Callum Brown), a producer hailing from the UK.
Sevin´s sound can be described as mellow but heavy, soulful yet full of stamina..the kind that I´m into nowadays, reflected on the productions that I make.
He´s been influenced by his older brother with the jungle movement and he has been making tracks ever since..he faced resistance from the scene which was leant towards the heavier side of drum n´bass at the time and therefore wasn´t paying attention to the liquid soulful music that he was making...
Times change though (good thing) and more recently, he has been receiving support from respected DJ´s on the scene such as Marky, Bailey, Jaybee, Stunna, Crissy Criss, Hybrid Minds and others.
His tracks are signed and forthcoming on labels such as Soul Deep Recordings, Fokuz, Stepping Forward, Fizzy Beats and E-Motion.
Cherry on top of the cake...Perception! By Joel Sevin...enjoy!

BLU MAR TEN
Greetings to all my bass soldiers!
Today we set sail on this sunny spring day and give credit to a trio that keeps pushing boudaries on today´s bass music scene: BLU MAR TEN
Formed in the big-bang of 90′s drum & bass and regular faces at Rage, Metalheadz, Speed & AWOL, Blu Mar Ten were rapidly spotted by LTJ Bukem and signed to Good Looking Records, cementing their position in the genre as originators of complex, atmospheric music.
They quickly grew and mutated beyond the confines of jungle into lush experiments with downtempo, ambient, breaks, techno and leftfield for labels such as Naked Music, TCR, Guidance and Big Chill, with another two full albums of non-d&b material on Exceptional Records.
Returning to drum & bass, Blu Mar Ten released a string of tracks on Hospital Records, Med School, Renegade Hardware, Shogun Audio, 31 Records, Tangent and many more..
Without a doubt, their stamp on the scene is set and bound to continue, supported by a following of almost 1 MILLION on the cloud of sound...simply incredible!
This is BLU MAR TEN at its best, track is entitled "Motor City", taken from album "Famous Lost Words", out now on Blu Mar Ten Music:

ANDY C
Greetings fellow bloggers!
Been thinking of writing about ANDY C for a while and that time has arrived!
Many words have been written about the importance he had on the recognition of Jungle and Drum and Bass as we know it today but it´s always time to pay respect for an incredible artist and DJ who has been building an impressive career over the last 20 years.
As quoted on his Resident Advisor artist page:
"At the age of 15, together with Ant Miles, Andy created magnum opus, "Valley of the Shadows (31 Seconds)" under their Origin Unknown alias, Often referred to as the "darkcore prototype", the track won Best Harcore Tune at 1993 Hardcore Dance Awards where Andy also collected the prize for Best Newcomer."
The label adventure starts in 1992, with a budget of £1000. RAM Records is established and since then, several all-time classics have been released in the shape of flying saucers, also known as vinyls. He extensively worked together with the likes of Randall, Shimon and Moving Fusion, creating the hardcore of the RAM Records sound.
Alongside the early foundations in producing his tracks, Andy C has also become a world-class DJ.
Personally having had the opportunity to have seen him playing live, combining in perfection the track selection with the mixing skills on the decks, I must say that it was a life-changing event...hats off to the Guru!
No surprise he was awarded the "World´s Best Drum and Bass DJ" title many times.
This is a true example of his priceless contribution for the scene:

Be prepared as we go real deep on the music of A M I T, a true junglist who has been in scene for a long time..I remember listening to "Dual Sense" back in the day...such a cool track! That intro that always takes me far orient...
As a decade flew by, he crafted his sound into a new slow but fast dimension..? Yes, it´s possible and it´s called "half-step".

THING
Greetings y´all!
Wishing everyone a very good new year!
On the last day of this rainy January 2014, the focus goes on someone hailing from Tallinn,Estonia (yes, you seen it right, that small independent country that borders Russia), his name is Kristjan Jogeva AKA THING
I shall warn you that if you say that you´ve heard it all, then I say you´re wrong.
It´s such a BLESS to live in a time when through a relentless search for new music on the cloud of sound, I see myself making music, influenced by musical discoveries like this one.
In the end, it´s a simple recipe:
- Deep Bass
- Interesting Rhythms
- Atmospheric Sounds
- Interesting FX´s and Dubwize
Let the music speak..because it's so good, I´m sharing not one but two tracks!
